Capital City Front Runners of Austin are looking to better diversify their running crew by bringing on board more lesbians! Yes, it’s true – they’ve been so desperate for female members that they’ve even had B.Y.O.L. (Bring Your Own Lesbian) running days.
If you haven’t heard of the group before, they are an LGBT running group open to all fitness levels from walkers, to runners that are just starting out to experienced marathoners. Their focus is to provide support, encourage fitness, and network within the LGBT community. The atmosphere is friendly, but I’m sure if you’re of the competitive type, you could find a little bit of that as well!
The group meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm, and Saturday mornings at 10 am on the North shore of Lady Bird Lake underneath the Mopaq bridge (by the water and stretching area). Runners are encouraged to show up 15 minutes ahead of time to warm up and stretch!
I know we’ve got some fitness freaks out there looking to join a fun group like this, so here’s the link if you want more info or want to register:

The Capital City Runners may work hard but as Nichole Johnson (one of the few and the proud lesbian members) demonstrates they also play hard…

It doesn’t matter what kind of runner you are. Even if you hate running and just want to meet cool people who do fun things together (and maybe be inspired to run one day:D). We even have walkers! There’s no commitment either. Come run with us and see what you think. Some people (usually myself included) can only make 1 run a week. You can always sign up later and snag one of our cool t-shirts:) Come on ladies…you know you want to.
I’ve been looking for an LGBT friendly group I can join to lose weight, get fit, get healthy and meet friends. This sounds perfect. I work nights so would only be able to make it on Saturdays but I think I’m definitely going to give this a try!
@Crystal You should definitely come out for a Saturday morning run. Those are usually the only ones I can make it to as well. We all go out to eat together afterwards (T, TR and Sat) to support local businesses that support the LGBT community. We also have happy hours and other fun events like bowling and karaoke. Hope to see you on the trail!
