How much do you know about the “B” in LGBT? An often glossed-over letter in our non-heterosexual alphabet soup, bisexuals are a large, yet quiet part of our community. They don’t always wear their identity on their sleeves, yet they are so much a part of us (and no, they aren’t all just “experimenting”).
We developed our site to serve the lesbian community, but that community has fuzzy borders. And one thing we are not about is exclusion. We share what we know for women who love women (and maybe love men, too).
To our bisexual friends, did you know that our wonderfully inclusive city hosts a very cool group called the Bisexual Network of Austin? Bi Net Austin is a volunteer-run organization whose purpose is to promote the understanding and acceptance of bisexuality.
The mission of Bi Net Austin is to provide a safe and confidential place for anyone who already identifies as bisexual, anyone questioning their sexual orientation, and friends, lovers, family, spouses, or anyone else interested in learning about bisexual politics and culture.
If you want to meet more people like yourselves, Bi Net Austin meets twice a month (every 1st and 3rd Friday). It’s a casual meet and greet for men and women– open conversation over drinks and food at local venues. The next event is this Friday at Opal Divine’s. They also host a “Bi Women’s Brunch” and a “Bi Boyz BBQ” periodically. For details, visit their website http://www.main.org/binetaustin/.
