Then she texts back.  Then we text back. And so on and so forth up until the point where your friends yell at you for having your face plastered to your cell phone screen all day and night.

Anyway, so that is the fact…and here is the news:  Texting while driving is now illegal in Austin, Tx!

The new law was put into effect January 2nd, 2010.  Although this may be an extremely hard habit for us to change, I think we an all agree that it’s for the best.

Voted on unanimously by Austin’s city council members, the law restricts drivers from texting, checking email, or using other applications (yes, this includes facebook ladies!) while their car is moving.  Texting is ok if you are stopped at a red light or stop sign, however, if you are caught “texting in motion” you can be ticketed and charged up to a $500 fee. 

You can count your lucky stars that Austin has yet to follow in the footsteps of cities like San Francisco, where by law you can only use your cell phone via blue tooth or some other hands free device – in Austin picking up your cell phone to call someone while driving is still legal.

So there you have it ladies, time to start breaking that bad habit!  Drivers in Austin will have only a one month grace period before cops really start to crack down.  Good luck and God speed!
