GALA is a lesbian only golf league, which plays monthly at the public courses. While you do not have to be a good player, you do have to have played so that you know course etiquette and how to get around 18 holes. The format is a four person best ball scramble which allows women of all abilities to participate. There are prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive and the team with the least amount of putts. We have a yearly planned party/meeting along with other events after golf, either at the course or at someone’s house. This group is also a good way to meet other golfers who like to play golf. The Equality Project is a public education program on policy issues and their effect on Texas citizens.  The Project also trains participants to establish relationships with their state representatives and senators, and to advocate for policy changes with their elected officials.  The Equality Project aims to engage the public in maintaining continuous conversations with their elected officials about matters of public policy that are directly impacting constituents’ lives.  It is these conversations about real people’s lives that will ultimately motivate policy change to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.  LEARN more about LGBT family issues, workplace nondiscrimination, hate crimes, bullying and harassment, public accommodations, and other pertinent issues.

The bank track roller derby is back in session this weekend with their
first game of the 2010 season! This is bound to be a good one as the
Calvello Cup Champion Hellcats take on the undefeated All Scar Army.
This will be a sight to see because the Hellcats have a really good
chance of beating the Army.

Shopping can move mountains. Especially when we’re talking about mountains of discrimination against the LGBT community. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has done an exhaustive audit of big, key brands to see who treats our people well, and who doesn’t– and then scored each one for our convenience. It’s called the Corporate Equality Index, or BUYING FOR EQUALITY 2010.

So what does it mean to score 100 percent? It means those companies have banned discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity (hallelujah!), provide benefits for LGBT employees and their families (amen!) and publicly support LGBT equality (praise them all!). And you know what’s even cooler? Despite a recession, there are MORE companies this year that scored 100 percent than last year! I’m talking 305 golden organizations compared to 260 just a year earlier. Just amazing. 

So, you ask, what are some of these forward-thinking, non-discriminating companies?
