Ladies, oh ladies. You know how much you love the girls’ nights at the gay boy bars. Well did you know every TUESDAY night is a ladies’ night at OCH?? Well now you do.

And this Tuesday, January 18^th, is a super-special one. Come out and meet the ladies of the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls from 7pm – midnight. Help celebrate the kick-off of their 10thanniversary season. Meet and mingle with the likes of skaters from the Holy Rollers, the Hellcats, the Putas Del Fuego and more!

Drink specials shall abound to keep you ladies happy, but that money will won’t go to waste. This TXRD ladies’ night is actually a fundraiser for the infamous Austin Angel’s women’s softball team. You know ‘em, you love ‘em… now come support ‘em!

Two raffles will be held for pairs of tickets to the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls’ first bout on January 30^that the Palmer Events Center – All Scar Army vs. United Skates Navy (oh how clever!). Both teams are made up of all star players from the league, so it’s gonna be a bloody awesome bout—guaranteed. Raffle tickets are $2 for one or $5 for three (you DO NOT have to be present to win. A pair of tickets is a $30 value).

Hate Crimes in Austin? Unbelievable, but yes. This past Friday night, two gay men who play for the Shady Ladies team with Softball Austin were leaving Oilcan Harry’s when they were attacked by four men in the City Hall parking garage. Wearing their Shady Ladies jerseys, Matt Morgan and Emmanuel Winston were followed from the bar and verbally harassed before being physically assaulted. See the news footage here.

My initial reaction… Really??? No way. Not in Austin. This doesn’t happen here!

But it did. And now it’s time to do something about it. The community has organized swiftly, so this Saturday take part in the “Austin March Against Hate” at 2pm to take the same walk that Matt and Emmanuel took that night. Everyone will gather at OCH starting at 2PM on Saturday, February 27, 2010 and then march from OCH to City Hall at 3PM.

If you play in any gay sports league, wear your jersey. If you are part of any LGBT organization, show your pride and dress accordingly. Bring your signs. Bring your voice. Bring your solidarity.
